About the program

Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino has always provided a strong technical and scientific foundation that enables a continuous growth of graduates in the modern industrial system.

Key facts

You will become a mechanical engineer, a professional with a sound technical background in the knowledge areas belonging to industrial engineering, endowed with specific skills of the mechanical field. To fulfil the various requirements of modern industries the degree program prioritises core knowledge and methodological aspects, instilling you with a propensity for continuously updating your skills so to adapt yourself to the various requirements expressed by industry.

The first year courses focus on preparatory and basic disciplines which are necessary to face the training of the following two years, more specifically devoted to expound the key sectors of mechanical engineering.

More specifically, the learning path may be divided into three areas that are strongly interconnected:

  • CORE SCIENTIFIC TRAINING: in Year 1, students learn the foundations of the core subjects (mathematics, chemistry, physics, computer science, together with technical drawing), which are necessary to approach the more specific subjects in subsequent years.
  • CORE ENGINEERING TRAINING: in Year 2, the more specifically engineering subjects are introduced with contributions from various disciplines (electrical engineering and electric machines, materials and metallurgy, technical physics, applied, structural, and fluid mechanics, experimentation and measurements); the year concludes with core scientific training (mathematics and physics).
  • SPECIFIC MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TRAINING: Year 3 is focused to more specific subjects to mechanical engineering (machine design, thermal machines, production technologies, industrial systems), as well as finishing studies in core engineering subjects.

Courses include:

  • Engineering drawing
  • Fundamentals of strength of materials
  • Mathematical analysis
  • Physics
  • Applied mechanics
  • Experimental statistics and mechanical measurement
  • Fundamentals of Engineering Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer
  • Science and technology of materials/Technology of metallic materials
